Easter weekend and after a Good Friday feast we head to Bristol to stay with our friend Jane, so that we can be up early on the Saturday ready to ride the Bristol to Bath cycle route along a disused railway line.
Before we start the ride we head into the centre of Bristol, because neither Stuart nor I have ever seen the centre. It's quite a grey gloomy start to the day, and that never does a city any favours, but the colorful houses overlooking the harbour still manage to look quite pretty.
Jane hasn't ridden her bike for 4 years, but she bravely decided to join us on the ride! The route is flat, well signed and Jane tells us only 13 miles each way, so a nice 26 mile ride to get her back into the swing of things.
This route is so easy that even Stuart and I would find it hard to get lost. However, there is one challenging moment where the cycle path had been closed for maintenance and we get diverted through the outskirts of Bristol for a mile or two. Fortunately , the diversion is well signed and we are soon back on track.
En route we find one of the original stations has been converted into a charming little cafe with excellent coffee! This is what cycling is all about!
They even have a sign that sums it up
Not long after our coffee stop we arrive in Bath, which has to be one of the prettiest towns in England. Even without the sunshine, it is still lovely!
The first picture is the Royal Crescent an impressive Georgian building, which is probably the poshest row of terraced houses in the UK.
After a brief wander around Bath, we stop at a tea room to sample one of the eponymous buns. I nearly sent mine back because I thought there was something wrong with it, but apparently the sugar lump baked into the middle is a feature.
Finally on the ride home the sun shines! Many photo stops for me!
